Your thermostat tells the furnace to provide your home with warm air. First, the carbon monoxide fan begins, then the furnace circuit board receives a signal from a switch that indicates to continue starting your furnace. The heating sequence takes a little time because several saftey switches are being used along with each furnace heat component. The process is sending each phase of the gas furnace starting process to the board.
When you circuit board has the data that the carbon monoxide will be vented out of the home, the igniter is directed to heat up, If it lights up then, the gas valve opens. The gas should light and a sensor wire sends a signal back to the board. The furnace will heat up and the safety switches will be in test mode until its safe to turn on the main blower motor.
